Dexter, MI – The youth of SRSLY are planning their fourth fun, substance-free event in Dexter. The 4th Annual SRSLY Dodgeball Tournament will be held at the Dexter High School Gym on Saturday, January 28, 2017, from 1-3:30pm.
In the past, this event was attended by at least 50 students and 20 adults. “The dodgeball tournament was fun! I hope there are more girls playing this year” said SRSLY youth representative, Bella Vera.
The tournament is free and open to anyone in grades 5-12 for participation. Participants will be broken into three different grade groups: 5-6, 7-8, and 9-12. Students can sign their teams up at www.srslydexter.org/dodgeball-tournament and find waiver release forms that their parents or guardians must sign to be allowed to play. All of the tournament rules are also listed on the website. Prizes will be awarded to the top team in each of the three grade categories.
Adults who are interested in volunteering during the evening can contact Stephanie Jacques by phone (734) 593-6974 or by email Stephanie@srslydexter.org. SRSLY is a community coalition dedicated to the prevention of destructive behavior in Dexter youth. SRSLY was formed in 2012 in response to local data showing that teens in Dexter are abusing alcohol, marijuana, and other drugs. SRSLY promotes positive family and community involvement and school bonding, and works to limit youth access to alcohol and other drugs, and reduce parental approval of youth drug use. SRSLY receives support from Chelsea Community Hospital, the Coghlan Family Foundation, the Chelsea-area Wellness Foundation, and the Drug Free Communities support program.
